Welcome to Mrs. Green's 3rd Grade Blog!!
I decided to begin this blog as an extra way of communicating with families about what's going on in our classroom! My hope is that this will also be a tool that students can use to update.
What's going on this week?
This week, we've had many things going on! During our Vocabulary/Word Study time, we've been working on multiple-meaning words and how they can be tricky when determining when to use them as a noun, verb, adjective, or other part of speech.
During our Reading time, we've been learning about making inferences. To make an inference during reading, you have to use clues from the text, as well as background knowledge. We've also been learning about our 7th Famous American, Thurgood Marshall. Today we learned how Thurgood worked diligently for civil rights by helping end segregation in schools during the 1950s and 1960s.
We've also been working on Response to Literature in writing. We read The Story of Ruby Bridges and were able to make text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections. I'm sure the students would love to tell you how similar Ruby's story is when compared to what was happening during Thurgood Marshall's time!
In math, we've been working hard to conquer LONG DIVISION! This is always a tricky concept for the students, but it is finally beginning to stick! We spent about 3 days just learning the process (divide, multiply, subtract, bring it down), and we've now been incorporating that knowledge into our math workshop problems for about 3 days.
COMING SOON:
Reading: Review for CRCT and Literature Study with the book, Punished! by David Lubar
Language Arts: Possessive Nouns and Pronouns
Math: Data Analysis (charts and graphs) and Algebra
Social Studies: Lyndon B. Johnson and Cesar Chavez
Other: Test-Taking Strategies Unit
I hope everyone finds this new way of communicating helpful. My goal is to eventually have the students updating our website. Please come back to see our site!
Great Job!
